To those paying attention, Gates is wheeling out the same playbook yet again: declare a civilization-threatening emergency, insist that no nation can handle it alone, and use the crisis to make centralized global governance increasingly necessary.
In a September 15 interview with Reuters, the globalist billionaire said governments around the world are “way behind” on artificial intelligence and argued that nations must form a global government to work together to confront the technology’s risks.
Gates compared AI to an alien intelligence that could force humanity to unite under one global government, and force the world’s major powers to unite.
For Gates’ critics, the message has a familiar ring: another global threat, another argument for global government.
Gates has long advocated international cooperation on issues including climate change, global health and pandemic preparedness. Now AI is being added to that list.
The timing is notable. The United Nations secretary-general is also calling for stronger international oversight and a shared global framework for AI, while major AI executives are backing international safety standards and greater coordination between governments.
Gates is also putting substantial money behind the AI push. His foundation announced this week that it plans to spend at least $1 billion over the next two years expanding AI applications in healthcare, education and agriculture around the world.
None of this proves that Gates is secretly plotting to establish a world government. But it does raise a question that his critics increasingly want answered:
