Flying Saucer Clouds Spotted Over Dublin Today

flying saucer clouds

Some unusual objects were spotted over Dublin today.

Not only did the sun make an appearance, but also some weird flying saucer clouds.

The fluffy flying saucers turned up in the sky over the city centre today as temperatures on the east coast soared into the low 20s.

People took to social media sharing their images and talking of a possible alien invasion, but there is an apparent rational explanation….

It seems that these lens-shaped clouds are often mistaken for UFOs but are in fact officially known as lenticular clouds.

Earthsky says this is how they are formed:

“These lens-shaped clouds typically form where stable moist air flows over a mountain or a range of mountains. When this happens, a series of large-scale standing waves may form on the mountain’s downwind side. If the temperature at the crest of the wave drops to the dew point, moisture in the air may condense to form lenticular clouds.”
