Starmer Says He Doesn’t Believe Trump Will Invade Greenland

Starmer

Donald Trump is not serious about invading Greenland, according to Sir Keir Starmer.

The British prime minister said he does not believe that the US president is genuinely considering using military force to seize Greenland.

During an emergency press conference from Downing Street on Monday, Starmer did condemn Trump’s vow to take control of the Danish territory and his threats of imposing sweeping tariffs on Britain and other European allies…..

But he also played down talk of retaliatory measures, saying that a trade war with the US was in no one’s interest.

The Telegraph reports: Mr Trump said he would charge Britain and other European countries a 10 per cent levy on “on any and all goods” sent to the US from February, rising to 25 per cent from June unless a deal was reached for Washington to purchase Greenland.

He repeatedly ‍insisted he wanted to buy Greenland, despite the leaders of  the mineral-rich island and Denmark saying it ‍was not for sale and did not want to be part of the US.

But asked by The Telegraph whether he genuinely thought Mr Trump was considering military action, Sir Keir said: “I don’t, actually.

“I think that this can be resolved and should be resolved through calm discussion but with the application of the principles and values that I’ve set out, in terms of who sets out the future of Greenland and making clear that the use of tariffs in this way is completely wrong.”
