Retired microbiologist Prof. Dr. Sucharit Bhakdi offered a grim assessment of the global mRNA vaccine rollout. “I’m no longer optimistic,” Bhakdi said. “And the reason is very simple. I fear that these ‘mRNA vaccines’ have already fulfilled their purpose. We are seeing billions of people whose brains no longer function.”
While mainstream fact-checkers have been quick to label Bhakdi’s rhetoric as alarmist, his latest observation arrives at a moment when the scientific literature is quietly acknowledging a spectrum of neurological and neurodevelopmental concerns that deserve serious attention.
The Shifting Scientific Conversation
For years, the official narrative insisted that mRNA products remained largely localized to the injection site and that neurological adverse events were exceedingly rare. However, recent peer-reviewed literature is beginning to paint a more nuanced picture.
A 2025 review in the International Journal of Biological Macromolecules explicitly profiled adverse events associated with mRNA platforms, noting reports of both cardiovascular and neurological symptoms while calling for a better characterization of underlying mechanisms.
More specifically, case reports and immunological studies are now documenting instances where the body’s immune response to the mRNA-encoded spike protein may intersect with the central nervous system.
A 2026 paper published in Frontiers in Immunology detailed a case of cerebral demyelination following mRNA vaccination, identifying spike-specific cytotoxic lymphocytes in the patient’s cerebrospinal fluid—suggesting a potential immune-mediated mechanism affecting the brain.
Similarly, other case reports have documented acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM) temporally associated with mRNA vaccination.
As the literature slowly catches up with the anecdotal reports, the conversation is shifting from ifneurological adverse events occur to how often and in whom. And if Prof. Bakhdi’s grim observation is correct, the answer is billions of people.
