Fact checked by The People's Voice Community

One man has died and a number firefighters were injured after a fire broke out at the Trump Tower in New York on Saturday.

Police identified the man killed as Todd Brassner, 67, a millionaire art dealer who was a resident on the building’s 50th floor.

The blaze started on the 50th floor of the tower in New York City’s central Manhattan area shortly after 5:30 pm local time.

Trump, who has an office and private residence in the building, was in Washington at the time.

Press TV reports: The New York City Fire Department responding to the situation said later that the fire had come under control.

Three firefighters have also sustained non-life-threatening injuries

But even before that, Trump declared that the fire had been put out, and thanked the fire department.

They, however, updated the blaze from a three-alarm fire to a four-alarm fire, adding it was not yet under control.

“Fire at Trump Tower is out. Very confined (well built building). Firemen (and women) did a great job. THANK YOU!” the US President wrote.
