A magnitude 5.9 earthquake struck Australia some 460 kilometers southwest of the town of Alice Springs in the country’s Northern Territory.

The quake hit at 18.14 UTC.

According to the US Geological Survey, the epicenter of the quake occurred at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers.

The USGS originally reported the earthquake as being magnitude 6.2

There have not been any reports of casualties or destruction so far.

The Joint Australian Tsunami Warning Centre said the quake measured 6.1 and was reported as being felt near Fregon, South Australia and Ulara, in the Northern Territory.
