A former NASA contractor with top-secret security clearance dropped a bombshell: the space agency routinely scrubs evidence of UFOs from official photographs before releasing them to the public.
The allegations came from Donna Hare, worked as a technical illustrator for Philco Ford Aerospace, and who repeatedly alleged that NASA routinely airbrushes unidentified objects out of satellite images destined for public release.
Her testimony has resurfaced amid renewed interest in NASA’s handling of images connected to the mysterious interstellar object 3I/ATLAS, which some researchers have speculated could be artificial in origin. NASA continues to maintain there is no evidence of extraterrestrial spacecraft or alien life.

NASA Worker Admitted ‘UFOs Are Removed’
Hare first publicly revealed her claims during the 2001 Disclosure Project press conference at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., later repeating the story in several interviews.

She said the incident occurred around 1970 or 1971 inside a restricted photo lab at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston.
According to Hare, a photo lab technician showed her an image of a perfectly round white object with sharply defined edges hovering above a forest of pine trees.
When she asked if it was a UFO, the technician allegedly replied: “I can’t tell you that.”
Hare said the response was confirmation.
“I knew he meant ‘it was,’ but he couldn’t tell me,” Hare recalled. “I asked, ‘What are you going to do with this?’ He said, ‘We always have to airbrush them out before we sell them to the public.'”
The original photograph has never surfaced, the technician has never been publicly identified, and NASA has never acknowledged any policy of removing UFOs from official imagery.
Claims Apollo Astronauts Encountered Alien Craft
Hare also alleged that Apollo astronauts privately discussed seeing mysterious craft during missions to the Moon.
She said a NASA employee involved in astronaut quarantine and debriefings told her that multiple Apollo crews reported being followed by unidentified objects.
“This particular man was in quarantine with them and was part of their debriefing,” Hare said. “He said a lot of them talked about seeing these craft follow them. I believe there were three on the moon when they landed.”
According to Hare, astronauts were ordered not to discuss the encounters and signed secrecy agreements carrying the threat of imprisonment.
Those allegations have never been confirmed by official records.
Other Astronauts Raised UFO Questions
Hare’s account echoes comments made by several former astronauts over the years.
Apollo 14 astronaut Edgar Mitchell publicly stated before his death that he believed extraterrestrials had visited Earth and that governments were concealing the truth.
Mitchell’s former wife, Anita Mitchell, later said he told her many astronauts and military pilots had witnessed unexplained objects.
She also recalled Project Mercury astronaut Gordon Cooper insisting that the objects being reported were beyond known human technology.
Fresh Spotlight on NASA
Hare’s decades-old testimony is attracting renewed attention as debate intensifies over 3I/ATLAS and a growing number of whistleblowers alleging secret government UFO programs.
Recent documentaries, congressional testimony, and former military officials have fueled claims that authorities have hidden information about unidentified craft for decades.
NASA and the U.S. government continue to deny any evidence that extraterrestrial spacecraft have visited Earth.
Still, for many UFO researchers, Hare’s allegations represent another insider account suggesting the public has not been shown the full picture.
