Syria calls for anti-Israel sanctions over airstrike

‘Syria has sent a letter to the United Nations to protest the latest Israeli airstrike on its soil, saying the move proves the regime’s direct support for terrorists fighting against the government.

In the letter sent on Sunday, the Syrian Foreign Ministry called on the world body to impose sanctions on Israel.

It also called for taking all measures stipulated by the UN charter for preventing such aggression.

The protest letter came after the Syrian army released a statement accusing Israel of bombing its main international airport and some safe areas near the capital Damascus.

A UK-based opposition source said at least 10 explosions were heard in the town of Dimas. The Israeli army has declined to comment on the reports.’
