Brazil Police Find Nazi Swastika In Swimming Pool During Fly Over

Fact checked

Well, here’s something you don’t see everyday.  A Brazilian Police helicopter was flying in a helicopter on a kidnapping case when it noticed a GIANT swastika tiled to the bottom of a mansion’s pool.

The police say since it’s on private property, there is nothing they will do about it, but they did release the picture.

According to an article titled “Giant swastika found in Brazil swimming pool” [1] from The Telegraph:

A giant swastika has been discovered emblazoned on the floor of a swimming pool in Brazil.

Police discovered it by chance as they were flying overhead in a helicopter during an anti-kidnapping operation.

They later investigated and found the Nazi symbol had been there for 13 years.

Because it is on private land they are not able to file any charges against the owner of the house where the pool sits in the garden.  The owner told police he was not promoting Nazi views and has not been publicly identified.

The swastika was found in the town of Pomerode in the state of Santa Catarina in southern Brazil.  Santa Catarina has a large population of Germans and Austrians dating back to the 19th Century.

In Pomerode around 90 per cent of the 25,000 population is of German-Brazilian descent and many people still speak German fluently.  An annual Oktoberfest is held in the nearby city of Blumenau and is one of the biggest in the world outside Germany.

After the Second World War a number of Nazis fled to Brazil. The notorious Auschwitz doctor Josef Mengele, the Angel of Death, died there in 1979.

What do you think?  Did the home belong to a Nazi at some point?
