Britain’s largest local authority has officially banned the Union Flag and the St George’s Cross. Fly either, and you could face two years in prison.
Birmingham City Council has spent 365 days treating England’s and the United Kingdom’s national emblems as a public-order problem. On Saturday, the legal noose tightened: the council has gone to the High Court seeking an injunction that effectively criminalises the display of British flags on public streets.
The penalty for breaching this order is not a fine or a slap on the wrist. It is unlimited fines and up to two years in prison.

Yet other national colours? They keep their place in the city’s official life. Foreign flags continue to fly outside the town hall. The city library is lit up in the colours of other nations. And the council has reportedly confirmed that anyone raising foreign flags will be exempt from the ban.

Let that sink in. The British flag is now a crime. Foreign flags are still welcome.
“I’LL GO TO JAIL”
The council is targeting grassroots campaigners from Raise the Colours, who put thousands of British flags on lampposts across England.
Ryan Bridge, one of the named men, told Talk TV:
“100% I will be carrying on. If I go to jail for it, so be it.”
THE EXCUSE THAT DOESN’T HOLD UP
Councillor Jane Baston claims it’s about “public safety” and “community cohesion.”
Nonsense.
If safety was the real issue, why are foreign flags exempt?
Why is the Union Jack the ONLY flag being stripped from the streets?
