Democrat Official Arrested in Chicago: Caught Voting for Her Dead Mother in Mail-In Primary Fraud

Fact checked by The People's Voice Community

In the corrupt heart of Illinois machine politics, an elected Democrat official has been arrested for allegedly casting a fraudulent mail-in ballot using her own deceased mother’s name.

Waukegan Ald. Sylvia Sims Bolton now faces felony charges for mutilation of election material along with a misdemeanor for disregarding the election code. Authorities say she submitted a vote-by-mail ballot for her mother, Mary Sims, weeks after the woman passed away on January 12, according to local reports.

The timeline tells the real story. Mary Sims died on January 12. A mail-in ballot was still issued in her name on February 5. Election officials canceled the registration on February 12 after receiving official notice of the death. Yet the completed ballot was returned and accepted by the system on February 26—long after the voter was pushing up daisies.

This wasn’t some minor paperwork error that slipped through unnoticed. Lake County officials caught it through their so-called “routine safeguards,” according to Lake County Clerk Anthony Vega. They coordinated with law enforcement, leading to Bolton’s arrest. She appeared in court this week.

Vega tried to spin it as proof the system works, saying their checks and balances performed as intended. But for anyone who has watched these operations in Democrat strongholds like the Chicago area, that claim rings hollow. The real question everyone should be asking is this: How many similar ballots cast for dead Democrats never get flagged at all? How many illegals are casting ballots for Democrats?

This incident is not happening in isolation. Mail-in and absentee voting expansions were aggressively pushed in recent years under the banner of convenience. Critics have warned from the beginning that these changes open the door to exactly this kind of abuse—ballots sent to old addresses, harvested by political operatives, or quietly used by relatives of deceased voters.

In a state like Illinois, with its long and ugly history of political corruption, one alderman getting caught doesn’t build confidence. It confirms the pattern conservatives have been highlighting for years: ghost voters, nursing home schemes, unsecured drop boxes, and weak verification.

Prosecutors allege Bolton personally completed and returned the ballot. The sheriff’s office waited until late March to launch a full investigation, even though the irregularity was spotted back in February. That kind of delay in a system handling thousands of mail ballots is exactly why trust has collapsed. In close races, even a few fraudulent votes can swing results.

Democrats and their media allies love to dismiss any concern about election integrity as conspiracy theories. Yet here we have an elected Democrat official directly implicated in voting on behalf of her dead mother. If this is happening openly in a primary, imagine what goes undetected when the stakes are higher. Cases like this make the “nothing to see here” narrative increasingly difficult to sell.

This is why millions of Americans continue demanding basic, common-sense protections: strict voter ID requirements, immediate cross-checks with death records, serious limits on ballot harvesting, same-day in-person voting with paper trails, and aggressive cleaning of voter rolls.

As this case moves through the Illinois courts, it should serve as a loud warning. “Rare” starts to sound like an excuse when these incidents keep surfacing in the very places pushing the most expansive mail-voting systems.
