
Activists in Egypt warn that the number of deaths and rapes in police custody is rising fast.
‘Rape is being used as a weapon by Egyptian police against both men and women, former detainees have told The Telegraph and human rights activists inside and outside the country.

As the country counts the cost of four years of strife and eighteen months of rule by its military strongman, President Abdulfattah al-Sisi, there is increasing pressure on the authorities to account for tens of thousands of people rounded up in protests and other mass arrests.
Even pro-regime newspapers have begun to question the numbers of people reported to have died in police custody. There are also increasing numbers of people released saying they were sexually assaulted.’
