A former Lebanese prime minister is seeking to issue a diplomatic passport for the Saudi prince who was arrested for smuggling two tons of amphetamines in Beirut, according to Lebanese media.

Saad Hariri, who is also the leader of the al-Mustaqbal movement and has close ties with Saudi Arabia, has been in contact with the Lebanese premier Fouad Seniore at the Saudi embassy in Beirut requesting help to release Saudi prince Abdel Mohsen Bin Walid Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

The Prince and four others were arrested and taken in for questioning by airport security after huge amounts of Captagon pills and cocaine were found on the Prince’s private plane.

Press TV reports:

According to the report, Seniore together with Lebanon’s Ministry of Interior are trying to issue a diplomatic passport for the Saudi Prince to free him from the charges and instead accuse one of his companions of drug trafficking.

The diplomatic passport will provide the Saudi prince with diplomatic immunity, through which he will be given a safe passage and considered not susceptible to lawsuit or prosecution under Lebanon’s laws.

Several members of Hariri’s Mustaqbal movement are trying to help release the Saudi prince.

The Saudi prince was arrested with four others at the Rafik Hariri International Airport earlier on Monday, after officials found  two tonnes of pills branded as Captagon which were due to be loaded onto a private jet.

The drugs were packed in 40 suitcases and the plane was to head to the Saudi capital, Riyadh.

The Lebanese officials said they managed to foil the largest drug smuggling operation in Lebanon’s history.

The confiscated drugs are of the type mainly used by Takfiri militants in Syria.
