France Jails Citizens, Bans Them From Social Media, For Exposing Brigitte Macron’s Transgender History

Fact checked by The People's Voice Community

A Paris court has found ten individuals guilty of “cyber-bullying” Brigitte Macron, the wife of French President Emmanuel Macron—handing out suspended prison sentences, social-media bans, and even immediate jail time.

The “crime”? Questioning a public figure, in this case the First Lady Brigitte Macron and her dubious backstory.

According to the court, eight men and two women crossed an invisible red line by circulating claims and commentary online regarding Brigitte Macron’s gender, sexuality, and the highly unusual 24-year age gap between her and the French president. The judge ruled that the defendants acted with a “clear desire to do harm,” describing their remarks as “degrading and insulting.”

But to critics of the ruling, the verdict raises a far more unsettling question: When did speech become a prison offense in France?

From “Ignore It” to Jail Cells

For years, the official advice to the Macron family was to ignore the online rumors—on the logic that legal action would only amplify them. That advice was abruptly abandoned.

Instead, the French state has now stepped in with prosecutions, suspended sentences of up to eight months, mandatory “prevention courses,” and the suspension of social-media accounts. One defendant was jailed immediately for failing to attend court.

Brigitte Macron’s lawyer, Jean Ennochi, made clear what mattered most to the legal team:

“The most important things are the prevention courses and the suspension of some of the accounts.”

To free-speech advocates, that statement speaks volumes. This was not merely about punishing harassment—it was about erasing voices.

Now the Fight Moves to America

In what may become a landmark free-speech showdown, the Macrons have now taken their campaign abroad, filing a defamation lawsuit in the United States against American commentator Candace Owens.

Candace Owens declares the left has lost control of the narrative

Owens has repeatedly discussed the Brigitte Macron conspiracy theory on her podcast and social platforms, going so far as to say in March 2024 that she would stake her “entire professional reputation” on her belief.

The Macrons’ legal team accuses Owens of ignoring “credible evidence” and amplifying conspiracy theorists.

But to critics, the U.S. lawsuit represents something larger: An attempt to globalize censorship.
