Leon Brittan buried in unmarked grave

Following claims that he was a serial abuser of young boys, Leon Brittan who died last month has been buried in an unmarked grave.

There are fears that the grave may be vandalised following revelations that the Metropolitan police were investigating Brittan at the time of his death over multiple allegations of child sexual abuse

The Mirror reports:

The former Home Secetary died of cancer last month amid claims he was a serial abuser of young boys while a top politician.

There are now fears the Tory lord’s last resting place could become a target.

A family friend and two other sources told Exaro, the investigative website, that Lord Brittan’s funeral on January 28 was “very private”. A service was held, amid strict secrecy, for family members at Golders Green Jewish Cemetery in north west London.

Gravediggers there have been told to say they know nothing about his unmarked site.

Lord Brittan’s grave is not even marked by flowers, as is traditional for Jewish burials.

The cemetery waits nine to 11 months before laying a gravestone, usually leaving a white plate in the meantime with the name.

Brittan’s widow, Diana, has asked staff at the cemetery only to take visitors to see the grave with family’s permission.
