Orphaned Sea Otter Pup Lands Forever Home In Chicago – Video

Fact checked

An orphaned sea otter pup in California has officially landed a forever home. She was first discovered on September 30th when a passerby on an evening stroll heard her cries.

The baby was in a remote location and initially she couldn’t be reached. The following day, the pup was still in the same spot and experts concluded she had likely been orphaned.

Staffers from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife transported her to Monterey Bay Aquarium where she received care for about a month.

Experts determined that the little sea otter couldn’t be reintroduced to wild, so officials from Shedd Aquarium in Chicago jumped up to help.

They’re offering her a home for the rest of her life. The baby, which is being called Pup 681 arrived at the facility on October 28th. She was five weeks old and weighed under 6 pounds.

Pup 681 has shown quite a bit of progress during the short time she’s been at the aquarium. She’s sampling solid foods, sipping formula from a bottle and even drying herself off after a dip.

Shedd’s Vice President of Animal Collections remarked “As an organization dedicated to marine mammal care and conservation, we were perfectly positioned to ensure that this little pup had a home, providing the long-term care needed to survive.”
