Sanders Slams ‘Destructive’ Kissinger

“Henry Kissinger was one of the most destructive Secretaries of State in the history of this country”

2020 presidential candidate Bernie Sanders has slammed former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger over his “destructive” legacy.

His comments were made in a tweet in response to a meeting between Kissinger and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

The Vermont senator said that a Sanders administration would not be seeking advice from Kissinger.

“Henry Kissinger was one of the most destructive Secretaries of State in the history of this country,” Sanders added.

Press TV reports: The socialist politician made the comment in response to Pompeo, saying he was “always grateful” to meet with the senior Republican.

“Honored to meet again with one of my most esteemed predecessors, Dr. Henry Kissinger. I’m always grateful for our conversations,” the hawkish secretary of state said in a tweet.

Kissinger is known to occasionally counsel US President Donald Trump as well. He is a target of human rights activists mostly for his dark legacy in Chile, Vietnam and Cambodia.

During the 2016 presidential election, Sanders attacked his Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton for her close ties with Kissinger.

“I am proud to say that Henry Kissinger is not my friend. I will not take advice from Henry Kissinger,” said the Vermont senator, who endorsed Clinton after she was nominated by the Democratic Party.
