The last of the founding fathers of Israel and former Prime Minister and President, Shimon Peres, has been hospitalized after suffering a stroke.
His doctors have put him in a medically induced coma.
93 year-old Peres was president from 2007 to 2014.
His political career spanned over 66 years.

Shimon Peres together with Yitzhak Rabin and Yasser Arafat won the 1994 Nobel Peace Prize “for their efforts to create peace in the Middle East” and giving Palestinians a path to self determination in the Oslo Accords.

Former Israeli president Shimon Peres has been taken to hospital after suffering a stroke. This was announced by a spokeswoman for the 93-year-olds. His doctors had decided to place him in an induced coma. Peres had received only last week a pacemaker inserted. Israeli media reports that he had suffered a brain haemorrhage and was in a critical approach.
The politician has held during his 70-year career spanning all high offices Israel. He belonged to a Minister in various ministries numerous governments, was twice prime minister and from 2007, the ninth president of his country.
In July 2014 he was replaced after seven years in office the incumbent President Reuven Rivlin. Since the end of his tenure, he is still active in Israeli public life, as in his organization Peres Center for Peace, which is fighting for a peace settlement in the Middle East.
Last representative of the founding generation
Peres is the last survivor of the generation of the founding fathers of Israel. He was born in 1923 as the son of a timber merchant in what was then eastern Poland and emigrated 1934 to Palestine.Peres is considered the father of the Israeli nuclear program.
As one of the sponsors of the Oslo Accords with the Palestinians Peres received the 1994 Nobel Peace Prize together with Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin and Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat.
