USS Liberty Veterans Reveal Decades of Death Threats and Government Betrayal After Israeli Assault – ‘Israel Owns Us’

Fact checked by The People's Voice Community

In a moment of raw truth that the Washington establishment has tried to bury for nearly six decades, survivors of the Israeli attack on the USS Liberty have finally been given a voice on the floor of Congress, thanks to one of the few remaining patriots in Washington, Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY).

On the 59th anniversary of the brutal June 8, 1967, assault that killed 34 American sailors and wounded 171 more, Massie delivered a powerful speech honoring the brave men who survived the unthinkable.

These heroes, now in their 80s, sat in the House gallery as Massie laid bare the horror: Israeli jets and torpedo boats unleashed a sustained attack on the clearly marked U.S. Navy intelligence ship in international waters. They strafed lifeboats, used napalm, and were “intent on leaving no survivor,” according to eyewitness accounts.

The cover-up runs deep. Survivors were ordered into silence under threat of prison – or worse. One veteran confirmed the gag order: speak out and face severe consequences from their own government. Another, after decades of being stonewalled, delivered a gut-wrenching truth: “Israel owns us.”

Total betrayal of American servicemen by the very institutions sworn to protect them.

Shrapnel in Their Bodies, Silence in the Halls of Power

These aging heroes still carry Israeli shrapnel in their bodies – metal that sets off detectors in the U.S. Capitol itself. Yet for 59 years, Congress has turned a blind eye. No full investigation. No accountability. Just endless excuses of “mistaken identity” despite the ship’s massive American flag, clear markings, and prior interactions with Israeli forces that day.

High-level officials knew better. Former Secretary of State Dean Rusk, CIA Director Richard Helms, NSA head Bobby Ray Inman, and others rejected the official fairy tale. The attack lasted hours. Communications were jammed. Rescue planes were recalled.

The evidence of deliberate intent is overwhelming. Phil Tourney and other survivors have recounted the nightmare: brothers slaughtered before their eyes, threats from their own government to never speak of it, and a lifetime of being ignored. One survivor described being beaten down not just by the Israelis, but mentally by U.S. officials enforcing the cover-up.

Thomas Massie: The Lone Voice of Courage

While the rest of Washington bows to foreign lobbies and endless aid packages, Rep. Thomas Massie stood tall. He met with the survivors, brought their story to the House floor, and demanded what should have happened decades ago: a real investigation, a resolution honoring the dead and wounded, and closure for these American heroes before it’s too late.

“Quit ignoring that they exist,” Massie declared. He highlighted the 70%+ casualty rate, the machine-gunning of life rafts, and the 17-hour delay in U.S. assistance. This wasn’t fog of war – it was a calculated strike followed by a calculated cover-up.

The USS Liberty Veterans Association and survivors like Ernie Gallo have fought tirelessly for truth. Their website (ussliberty.org) stands as a testament to their perseverance. Yet the establishment’s silence speaks volumes about who really pulls the strings in D.C.

Why Does This Matter Today?

This isn’t ancient history. It’s a warning. When a so-called ally can attack a U.S. ship, murder American sailors, and face zero consequences – when our own government threatens its own veterans to protect the narrative – it reveals a deep rot in our foreign policy.

The same influences that buried the Liberty story continue to shape America’s priorities, often at the expense of American lives and sovereignty.
