The arrest of Romania’s anti-globalist president Călin Georgescu was carried out under the direction of the EU, according to Austrian MEP Helmut Brandstätter.
Georgescu was arrested by Romanian authorities on Tuesday. Following his arrest, Brandstätter responded on X to a user celebrating the development, “There’s finally one country in Europe wherein there’s legal consequences for working for Russians to rip apart democracy. Romania!”
Infowars.com reports: Brandstätter responded with the insinuation that Georgescu’s arrest was the doing of the EU Commission’s Soros-backed “European Democracy Shield” initiative.

“Other countries will follow. We have a commission in the European Parliament for ‘Democracy Shield.’ And we take that very seriously,” Brandstätter replied.

According to the Brussels Signal, the organizations involved in the EU’s Democracy Shield initiative received contributions from George Soros’ Open Society Foundation (OSF) network.
Although the EUDS is only an advisory body, it can make recommendations on best practices for protecting democracy and encouraging fair political discourse in the EU.
These recommendations can be used by the European Parliament and the EC to draft or refine legislation and policies.
The connections have raised questions among European observers about the influence of Soros’ foundations in shaping the EU’s new democracy enforcement tool.
The chair of the European Democracy Shield Committee, Nathalie Loiseau, has also been revealed to have ties with Soros’s money.
She is linked to OSF through her affiliation with the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR), which has received multiple grants from the Soros-led organisation between 2019 and 2022.
Georgescu was detained by police for questioning by prosecutors over his campaign expenses — less than 24 hours after his thrilling interview with Infowars host Alex Jones.
Prosecutors opened criminal proceedings against Georgescu on six counts, including anti-constitutional acts, “establishing a fascist, racist or xenophobic organization,” “promoting the cult of persons guilty of genocide,” and misreporting his finances, authorities said on Wednesday.
He’s also been barred from leaving the country and is forbidden from creating new social media accounts or making any more TV or podcast appearances.
Prosecutors alleged Georgescu was working as a proxy for Russia to undermine Romania’s democracy.
His detainment was also part of a nationwide police action that involved raids against a total of 27 individuals under investigation for a number of crimes, including anti-constitutional actions, possession of illegal weapons caches, instigating racism, fascism and xenophobia and “promoting a cult of personality accused of genocide and war crimes.”
Georgescu was on his way to submit his candidacy for the new presidency when he was arrested during a traffic stop.
“We are the people, we are the power. We will not kneel before anyone. This was expected. The whole world knows what is happening in Romania now. It’s the despair here combined with that of Brussels,” Georgescu said after leaving the Public Prosecutor’s Office on Wednesday evening.
The Romanian Constitutional Court, despite the lack of proven fraud, ultimately invalidated presidential elections last year after Georgescu won the majority vote.
Former French European Commissioner Thierry Breton last month essentially openly confessed that the West stole the Romanian election and would be ready to do it again in Germany if deemed necessary.
