Early into the weekend, a Mexican volcano, located in Western Mexico and often referred to as “The Volcano of Fire”, is officially known as the Colima Volcano.  It began spewing volcanic lava and ash as high as 4 miles into the air, according to reports.

According to NBC News [1]:

The initial eruption occurred just after 11 a.m. local time on Thursday with ash falling to the southwest of the crater, according to a statement from Colima state’s civil protection agency.

Colima is one of Mexico’s most active volcanoes [2].

The director of Mexico’s civil protection agency, Luis Felipe Puente, tweeted Friday that preventive protocols were activated.

People were advised to recognize a 3-mile perimeter around the volcano’s peak. A state helicopter was sent on a reconnaissance flight on Friday morning.
