A small craft brewery from South Florida has designed a new packaging for beer that should help feed ocean wildlife instead of killing them.

ocean necn reports:

Saltwater Brewery, in Delray Beach, says the six-pack rings are also 100 percent biodegradable and compostable and are made with byproducts from the beer-making process, including barley and wheat remnants.

The company created a video to showcase the six-pack rings, which went viral when it was posted on social media and picked up by news outlet Now This News. That video garnered over 50 million views in three days.

The plastic six-pack rings used by many companies can end up in the ocean, where they can harm fish, birds and other wildlife. The new rings can actually be eaten by fish, the company says.

Saltwater says their edible six-pack rings cost more to produce now but said the price may go down when more companies start using them.

“It’s a big investment for a small brewery created by fishermen, surfers and people that love the sea,” Peter Agardy, head of brand for Saltwater, says in the video.ocean
