Dozens of animals dead at dogs’ home fire

Fact checked by The People's Voice Community

At least 43 dogs  have died in a blaze at a Manchester dogs home.

A juvenile has been arrested on suspicion of arson.

Police said the number of animals that have died is expected to rise.

Four fire crews are at the scene of the blaze, which broke out at about 19:00 BST in Moss Brook Road in Harpurhey..

Residents said they could hear “dogs yelping” as staff were beaten back by flames.

The home was established in 1893 and has capacity for 400 dogs and is run entirely on donations from the general public.

The Manchester Evening News ( M.E.N)  has set up a donation page through ‘JustGiving’ – a reputable website and 100% of generous donations will be forwarded directly to management at the home.
