Israel Officially Launches ‘Greater Israel’ Land Grab: Borders to Expand Deep into Lebanon, Syria, and Gaza

Fact checked by The People's Voice Community

Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich just said the quiet part out loud: Israel intends to redraw its borders by pushing deep into neighboring territory. What was long dismissed as antisemitic “conspiracy theory” is now, in his own words, a strategic reality.

As Israeli operations escalate in southern Lebanon, Smotrich pointed to the Litani River—some 20–30 kilometers inside Lebanese territory—as the line Israel should ultimately hold as its northern boundary.

He drew a direct parallel to existing zones of control: the so-called “Yellow Line” in Gaza Strip and the entrenched buffer areas in Golan Heights, including Mount Hermon—suggesting a broader doctrine of territorial expansion under the banner of security.

“The new Israeli border must be the Litani,” Smotrich stated. He insisted the ongoing military campaig nagainst Hezbollah “needs to end with a different reality entirely,” including a permanent “change of Israel’s borders” and a “sterile security cordon” carved out of sovereign Lebanese land.

He added that “many more settlements will be established” and warned, “There will be a lot of work for all of us after the war.”

This is not fringe extremism from the sidelines. Smotrich, a powerful figure in Benjamin Netanyahu’s coalition government, is turning what was once dismissed as wild “conspiracy theory” into official Israeli policy.

What Was Mocked as Conspiracy Is Now Happening in Plain Sight

For decades, voices warning about the Greater Israel Project — a vision of a vastly expanded Jewish state stretching across parts of Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Gaza, the West Bank, and beyond — were ridiculed by mainstream media and pro-Israel advocates as antisemitic fabrications, outdated biblical fantasies, or baseless paranoia.

Maps showing Israeli borders extending to the Litani River or further were brushed off as hoaxes with no basis in reality. Those days are over.

Smotrich’s remarks lay bare the agenda. He is not speaking hypothetically. Israel is already creating “facts on the ground” through destruction and displacement:

  • In Lebanon, calls for a deep “security zone” up to the Litani come as Israeli strikes destroy bridges, homes, and infrastructure, displacing hundreds of thousands. Smotrich and allies openly model this on the Gaza approach — clear the land, control the territory, then colonize.
  • In Gaza, relentless bombardment and the “Yellow Line” have paved the way for potential resettlement and permanent Israeli dominance.
  • In Syria, existing occupations on the Golan Heights serve as the blueprint for further expansion.

Smotrich promises a post-war building boom of Israeli settlements across these seized areas. This is demographic engineering and ethnic cleansing dressed up as “security.” Each new buffer zone requires more military force, more displaced Arab populations, and more stolen land — all justified by the same endless cycle of “self-defense” that conveniently expands Israel’s footprint.

The Brutal Truth Behind the “Security” Excuse

Israeli officials claim this expansion is purely about protection from threats like Hezbollah and Hamas. But the pattern reveals something far more sinister: conquest and domination.

Destroying villages, bombing infrastructure, and forcing mass evacuations creates the vacuum needed for “sterile” zones and future settlements. In southern Lebanon, entire communities face erasure under the guise of a “security cordon.” Gaza has already been turned into a wasteland, with hardliners pushing to replace Palestinian presence with Israeli outposts. The West Bank continues to see accelerated settlement growth that fragments and suffocates Palestinian life.

Critics rightly call this what it is — a settler-colonial project rooted in supremacist ideology, not genuine security. History proves that stolen land and suppressed populations breed resistance, not peace. Yet Smotrich and his far-right allies double down, viewing endless conflict as an opportunity for “a lot of work”: more bulldozers, more outposts, more redrawn maps at the expense of Arab lives and sovereignty.

The Greater Israel vision was never a myth concocted by critics. It was a long-term strategy hidden in plain sight — advanced through incremental “facts on the ground” while denials flowed from Tel Aviv and its defenders.

Now, with a senior minister openly demanding border changes into Lebanon, Syria, and Gaza, the mask has been ripped away.
