A shift is taking place in the gender and sexual identities of young Americans with more and more now identifying as heterosexual, according to a new report.
The report suggests that transgender identification among young Americans is now in sharp decline after reaching a peak during Joe Biden’s administration.
Produced by Professor Eric Kaufmann, the report titled “The Decline of Trans and Queer Identity among Young Americans” presents an analysis of college-age students in the US using seven data pools.

It shows that transgender identification is now at around half the level it was during its peak in 2023 suggesting a fall from 7% to 4%.

InfoWars reports: For the 2024-2025 period, fewer first-year college students identified as “trans or queer” compared to senior students, a reversal of the trend for 2022-2023.
Those who identify as “non-binary”—neither male nor female—has also dropped by half in three of five data sources used by the study.
Heterosexual identification has increased, but remains lower than in 2020.
Numbers identifying as gay and lesbian remained stable.
“This suggests that gender/sexual non-conformity will continue to fall,” Kaufmann wrote on X in a post about the findings.
He said transgender and queer identity is clearly a “fashion,” and the trend now seems to be on the wane.
“The fall of trans and queer seems most similar to the fading of a fashion or trend,” he wrote. “It happened largely independently of shifts in political beliefs and social media use, though improved mental health played a role.”
“Less anxious and, especially, depressed students [are] linked with a smaller share identifying as trans, queer or bisexual,” he added.
In January, President Trump signed an executive order to prevent the federal government from funding or promoting gender transition among children.
“This dangerous trend will be a stain on our Nation’s history, and it must end,” Trump said.
Back in August, Infowars reported that nearly three million Americans—around 1% of the population—now identify as transgender.
According to research from the Williams Institute, 76% of individuals who identify as transgender—a total of 2.8 million—are younger than 35. Twenty-five percent are between the ages of 13 and 17: 724,000 teenagers.
The report states that the racial composition of transgenderism closely mirrors the racial composition of the US.
Roughly a third of individuals who identify as transgender identify as women; a third as men; and a third as nonbinary.
The Williams Institute has produced reports on transgenderism in the US since 2022. In that year, it estimated the number to be 1.6 million, meaning the number has increased by around 75% in just three years.
