Bruce Jenner was interviewed last evening on American television by renowned journalist Diane Sawyer. In the interview, which was over two hours long, Jenner told the world that he has the “soul of a female”.

The interview is being hailed by both critics and supporters as important for many reasons.

The topic, was once so taboo, that it was barely mentioned on even alternative channels dealing with sexuality.
Also it’s subject: one of the most famous male Olympic athletes of all time, considered one of the sexiest men alive in his younger years, now admitting he is transitioning into becoming a woman.

The International Business Times reports:

Bruce Jenner’s decision to speak out about his struggle to come to terms with his gender identity has been hailed as brave and courageous by the transgender community. The 65-year-old Olympian sat down with Diane Sawyer for an interview, which aired Friday night on ABC, to publicly announce that he has the “soul of a female.”

Jenner’s announcement is being viewed as a key moment for the transgender community, and comes amid increasing visibility of transgender people in American society. Jenner expressed optimism in the interview, saying, “what I’m doing is going to do some good” and spoke out about becoming involved in transgender activism.

Mara Keisling, the executive director of National Center for Transgender Equality, praised the star’s move, saying this would now be a bridge for millions of Americans to understand “the truth behind the struggles of being transgender in 2015 America.”

“In one of the most profound displays of bravery and courage I’ve seen, Bruce Jenner has finally stepped out into the world for real,” Keisling said, according to Variety. “To Jenner, welcome. To Jenner’s family, thank you for your touching and compassionate support. And to America, let’s all push past this trans tipping point together and change the world. We extend our deepest thanks and welcome to him.”

Log Cabin Republicans, an organization that advocates equal rights for gays and lesbians in the U.S., welcomed Jenner to the community, saying, “there is a home for you in Log Cabin Republicans — as there is for all lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, and transgender conservatives and straight allies.”

“As the nation’s only organization representing LGBT conservatives and straight allies, Log Cabin Republicans congratulates Bruce Jenner in the tremendous courage he demonstrated tonight, being true to himself both in terms of his personal identity as well as his political identity,” Gregory T. Angelo, the organization’s executive director, said in a statement.

GLAAD, an LGBT media monitoring and advocacy group, also supported Jenner and said that his story will help others express their gender identity without fear of discrimination.

“Today, millions of people learned that someone they know is transgender,” GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis said in a statement. “By sharing this story, Bruce Jenner has shined a light on what it means to be transgender and live authentically in the face of unimaginable public scrutiny. Though Jenner’s journey is one that is deeply personal, it is also one that will impact and inspire countless people around the world.”

  1. ‘Hero’??
No disrespect to any LGBT community, but calling a millionaire who could afford to do what any ‘celeb’ does with his money is anything but. What defines a hero? I used to think it was the Purple Hearts that my Father and Grandfather both earned for their service in the USMC for their actions serving during WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. Calling a privileged man who was able to buy his happiness does not make a Hero. (whatever…I doubt anyone really cares enough to dispute what he/she did was anything to even blink at, I know it doesn’t mean a thing for me)
Actually, let us set aside his gender, and observe him as a red-blooded human; one whom is being sued and possibly charged for causing the death, and injury to 7 others in that ‘wee’ crash that he/she is at fault for (“Those pesky paparazzi! They made me do it!”). Have we forgotten that?

To call him/her an ‘icon’, or a ‘role model’ for all trans-gender folk is far more appropriate, considering that he/she is going to make a crapload of cash, PR, and whatever comes with being part of an American fallacy in familial idealism steeped in scandal, stupidity, flagrant self-promotion, and anything but a role model as a family with the equivalency of a sad Monarchy built solely on the finances, and certainly not by any altruistic actions.

So? Next time people wish to call someone a Hero? Maybe you should go to a VA hospice, or even their website. No need to look any furthur than the many forgotten ones that definitely do not have funds to even get the medical attention and respect they deserve.

    • Miss.Anne, very articulate and well stated comment. I couldn’t agree more; as a Viet Nam vet who served America honorably, I am appalled by the depths this nation has sunk to in the name of liberal/progressive freedoms. Speaking truth is now labeled hate, downgrading the US Constitution in favor of abominable Sharia Law is being forced on America through the schools and courts. Do American’s even know what Sharia Law is about? Cutting off body parts, throwing people off roofs alive, burning them alive or crucifying them for believing in a Faith other than Islam is horrific and barbaric. Filling the White House with Muslim spies and Islamic sympathizers has begin the downfall of America!
      Sharia Law Facts
Sharia law divides offences into two general categories: “hadd” offences, which are serious crimes with set penalties, and “tazir” crimes, where the punishment is left to the discretion of the judge. According to the Oxford Islamic Studies, these Hadd offences include:
Theft — amputation of the hand
Adultery or illicit sex — death by stoning or one hundred lashes
      Homosexuality — death
Making unproven accusations of illicit sex — 80 lashes
      Drinking intoxicants — 80 lashes
Apostasy (leaving the faith) — death or banishment
Tazir are severe crimes that do not measure up to the strict requirements of Hadd offences. Punishment can range from the death penalty, fines, imprisonment and caning at the discretion a judge.

      Sharia Law and Homosexuality
Sharia teaches that homosexuality is a vile form of fornication, punishable by death. Read from the Quran yourself:
Quran (7:80-84) – “…For ye practice your lusts on men in preference to women: ye are indeed a people transgressing beyond bounds…. And we rained down on them a shower (of brimstone)” – An account that is borrowed from the Biblical story of Sodom. Muslim scholars through the centuries have interpreted the “rain of stones” on the town as meaning that homosexuals should be stoned, since no other reason is given for the people’s destruction. (Inexplicably, the story is also repeated in three other suras: 15:74, 27:58 and 29:40).
Quran (7:81) – “Will ye commit abomination such as no creature ever did before you?” This verse is part of the previous text and it establishes that homosexuality as different from (and much worse than) adultery or other sexual sin. According to the Arabic grammar, homosexuality is called the worst sin, while references elsewhere describe other forms of non-marital sex as being “among great sins.”
Quran (26:165-166) – “Of all the creatures in the world, will ye approach males, “And leave those whom Allah has created for you to be your mates? Nay, ye are a people transgressing”
Quran (4:16) – “If two men among you are guilty of lewdness, punish them both. If they repent and amend, Leave them alone” This is the Yusuf Ali translation. The original Arabic does not use the word “men” and simply says “two from among you.” Yusuf Ali may have added the word “men” because the verse seems to refer to a different set than referred to in the prior verse (explicitly denoted as “your women”). In other words, since 4:15 refers to “your women”, 4:16 is presumably written to and refers to men.

      Sharia Law & Rape:
Under Islamic law, rape can only be proven if the rapist confesses or if there are four male witnesses. Women who allege rape without the benefit of the act having been witnessed by four men (who presumably develop a conscience afterwards) are actually confessing to having sex. If they or the accused happens to be married, then it is considered to be adultery.
Quran (2:282) Establishes that a woman’s testimony is worth only half that of a man’s in court (there is no “he said/she said” gridlock in Islam).
Quran (24:4) “And those who accuse free women then do not bring four witnesses, flog them…” Strictly speaking, this verse addresses adultery (revealed at the very time that Muhammad’s favorite wife was being accused of adultery on the basis of only three witnesses coincidentally enough). However it is a part of the theological underpinning of the Sharia rule on rape, since strict Islamic law does not recognize rape if there are not four male witnesses or a confession.
Quran (24:13) “Why did they not bring four witnesses of it? But as they have not brought witnesses they are liars before Allah.”
Quran (2:223) “Your wives are as a tilth unto you; so approach your tilth when or how ye will…” There is no such thing as rape in marriage, as a man is permitted unrestricted sexual access to his wives.
Sahih Bukhari (5:59:462) – The background for the Quranic requirement of four witnesses to adultery. Muhammad’s favorite wife, Aisha, was accused of cheating [on her polygamous husband]. Three witnesses corroborated the event, but Muhammad apparently did not want to believe it, and so established the arbitrary rule that four witnesses are required. Rape of Muslim women is against Islamic law – although the rape of non-Muslim women is not, if they are ‘captured in battle’ or bought as slaves. Even the rape of a Muslim woman is almost impossible to prove under strict Islamic law (Sharia). If the man claims that the act was consensual sex, there is very little that the woman can do to refute this. Islam places the burden of avoiding sexual encounters of any sort on the woman. A recent fatwa from a mainstream Islamic site echoes this rule and even chides a victim of incest for complaining when she has no “evidence”: However, it is not permissible to accuse the father of rape without evidence. Indeed, the Sharee’ah put some special conditions for proving Zina (fornication or adultery) that are not required in case of other crimes.
The crime of Zina is not confirmed except if the fornicator admits it, or with the testimony of four trustworthy men, while the testimony of women is not accepted. Hence, the statement of this girl or the statement of her mother in itself does not Islamically prove anything against the father, especially that the latter denies it. Therefore, if this daughter has no evidence to prove that her accusations are true, she should not have claimed that she was raped by her father and she should not have taken him to the court. Since it is incredibly unlikely that a child molester will violate his victim in front of “four trustworthy men”, Islamic law amounts to a free pass for sexual predators.
Islamic law rejects forensic evidence (such as DNA) in favor of testimony. An interesting situation thus sometimes develops in cases where a victim alleges rape and the man denies that sex even took place. In the absence of four male witnesses, rape cannot be proven. The woman’s testimony then becomes a “confession” of adultery. She can be stoned, even though the male is unpunished, since he never admitted to a sexual act. Some clerics blame rape on the woman.
