Princess Diana's Ex-Royal Marine Bodyguard Jailed For Child Abuse, Again

Stephen Salmon, who was jailed for four years last July after being found guilty of historical child sex abuse, has been handed a six month extension

The former Royal Marine who was a bodyguard for Princess Diana during her honeymoon has been jailed again for sex attacks on girls after two more victims came forward.

The Mirror report:

Salmon was already serving time for a string of sex assaults on a child in the 1970s when she was aged between seven and 12.

But two other women, now in their 40s, also suffered at the hands of Salmon – a family friend – and were prompted to go to police following his first conviction.

He was handed a further six months for his sickening assault on the girls, then aged six and nine, after they saw his photograph in the newspapers and were inspired by the other victim to come forward.

Salmon served in the Royal Marines and was a bodyguard on the Royal Yacht Britannia for the newlywed Prince and Princess of Wales’ honeymoon.

He denied numerous attacks against his first victim ‘Natalie’, who bravely waived her anonymity to speak about the abuse she suffered.

This time he admitted two charges of indecent assaults on two girls under 14 and was jailed again at Newport Crown Court on the Isle of Wight.

The first victim, who was nine at the time, said: “My friend saw his (Salmon’s) picture in the news and told me.

“I felt like everything had been blown out into the open. I knew what had happened but, until then, I felt a sense of distance from it.

“Then all of a sudden it became real again.

“It was a chance to do something about it because he had been proved a paedophile. I had nothing to lose.”

The second victim, who was six at the time, added: “Occasionally I would think about it.

“Things would happen and it would come to the forefront but I would bury it away again. It was never dealt with. I never received counselling.”

Salmon claimed in court he was depressed and drinking heavily at the time so could not remember them.

During the 1970s he lived in Portsmouth, Hants, and lived next door to Natalie and her family – forging a close friendship with them.

But he repeatedly abused his position of trust, subjecting the young girl to a series of indecent assaults.
