Tax Filings Reveal Biden Cancer Charity Spent Millions On Salaries & Nothing On Research

Fact checked
Biden Charity

A cancer charity started by Joe Biden failed to allocate a single dollar for medical research and spent most of its contributions on generous staff salaries, federal filings show.

The Biden Cancer Initiative was founded in 2017 by the former vice president and his wife Jill two years after after their son Beau died from a brain tumor.

The charity did not distribute grants or money for research in its first two years, but spent millions of dollars hiring former Obama-Biden administration aides.

After only two years, the charity “paused” its operations when Joe Biden and his wife stepped down for his presidential run.

The NYP reports: The charity took in $4,809,619 in contributions in fiscal years 2017 and 2018, and spent $3,070,301 on payroll in those two years. The group’s president, Gregory Simon, raked in $429,850 in fiscal 2018 (July 1, 2018 to June 30, 2019), according to the charity’s most recent federal tax filings.

Simon, a former Pfizer executive and longtime health care lobbyist who headed up the White House’s cancer task force in the Obama administration, saw his salary nearly double from the $224,539 he made in fiscal 2017, tax filings show.

Danielle Carnival, former chief of staff for Obama’s cancer initiative, the Cancer Moonshot Task Force, who took home $258,207 in 2018.

The charity spent $56,738 on conferences and $59,356 on travel that year. The following year, the travel expenditure swelled to $97,149, and the non-profit spent $742,953 on conferences, tax filings show.

But under grants distributed, it listed zero.

Simon had said that the main point of the charity was not to give out grants, and that its goal was to find ways to accelerate treatment for all, regardless of their economic or cultural backgrounds.

Biden headed up the Cancer Moonshot Task Force when he was veep after his son Beau died of a brain tumor in 2015. After leaving office, the Biden Cancer Initiative sought to continue such efforts to provide “urgent” solutions to treating cancer, according to a 2017 press statement announcing its launch.

The Bidens stacked the board with leading oncologists and celebrity cancer survivors, including musician Jimmy Gomez from the Black Eyed Peas.

After only two years, the charity “paused” its operations when Biden and his wife stepped down for Joe Biden’s presidential run.

Although the organization is still officially active, according to the IRS, Simon said in a 2019 interview that without the Bidens at the helm, the charity lost its edge.

  1. Fraud and lies and money-grubbing cronyism are a Joe Bidet family tradition.

Anyone who expected otherwise is a GD worthless fool.

  2. Typical Top oncologists and medical professionals all in it with their great greedy lying thieving opportunistic evil hypocritical cunning deceits

  3. Nothing new. How long has cancer research been around….How many generations have given in the pursuit of a cure ….TAHDAH… Still haven’t found a cure.

  4. That’s pretty much standard with most “charities” for diseases. The fact is most “charities” spend the vast majority of the money coming in on salaries. The presidents, vice presidents, administrators, etc. make obscene amounts of money while the work they are claiming to do gets a pittance if anything at all.

I always remember when I was doing delivery in Los Angeles many years ago. I would always listen to one classical music station while I was driving. Every day at noon they would have an expert come on to give a brief message about something of import. This one day there was this doctor who came on and he was discussing cancer. His first statement was, “The war on cancer is largely a fraud.” He went on to say that cancer is big business. Most of the money taken in doesn’t go to research at all; that most of the money goes to salaries.

The sad thing is that in order for an approach to cancer to be approved it has to follow the “accepted standard” in its approach. That accepted standard is chemotherapy, surgery and radiation. That is the same approach that has been used for a century. Einstein said that the definition of insanity was, “… doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”

That doesn’t mean to accept those alternative methods without question. There are many who claim they can cure 4th stage metastatic cancer and their approach didn’t do anything. I’ve had many friends die from cancer. Some used alternative methods and it didn’t work. But more went the standard route and it didn’t work. It seems that the standard approach has kept us from finding a workable solution because it keeps research at a stand-still. One big problem is not knowing if cancer is one disease with many different causes or many diseases with one cause. Until “charities” actually become charities and put their money to research instead of administration nothing will ever change.
