Georgian tennis ace Nikoloz Basilashvili was forced to retire after struggling to breathe during his ATP Cup match in Sydney on Wednesday.

Basilashvili needed treatment from a doctor during his singles match against Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas when play was abruptly halted and eventually abandoned.

The Sun reports: The 29-year-old hit a forehand long to trail 0-30 in the game.

He then walked slowly to his team’s bench and tried to take some deep breaths and sip some water as he waited for the physio to come on to court.

The pair had a conversation before another doctor joined as hand gestures suggested he was feeling tightness in his chest.

He was overheard saying: “Every shot I’m out of breath.”

Emma Raducanu also had to terminate her magnificent Wimbledon run in a similar fashion last summer.

And the distressing scenes were reminiscent of Sergio Aguero’s health worries playing for Barcelona which ultimately led to his retirement from football.

Former British tennis star Colin Fleming said on commentary: “This is concerning, very concerning I would say.

“If you feel like you can’t take any kind of deep breath at this level and this intensity, that’s an issue.”

Basilashvili headed off the court with the medics while Tsitsipas kept warm by rallying with one of his Greek team-mates.

However, when the world No22 returned, the players shook hands and the umpire confirmed the withdrawal.

  1. Men’s big number one suing Ausyralia health tyrants for their dictatorial despotic anti human rights violations Basically. Forcing people to play Russian roulette and billing taxpayers for trillions I to the bargain is not conducive to integrity and there’s zero transparency.

  2. You won’t get sick from covid with the jab but, you just won’t be a world class athlete anymore either. I did the same thing by smoking cigarettes when I was young. Be safe and don’t risk your life to be a famous athlete. Take the jab and live a safe life.

    • Not true. He jab neither stops you catching covid or spreading it. There is no proof that it even lessens symptoms only hearsay from parties with vested I terests so who cannot be trusted.

    • Take the jab and risk your life. Graphene oxide and hydroxide in the jabs form nano-size razor blades which cut tiny blood vessels, cause clotting, and gravitate to the electrical impulses in the heart. Physical exertion by athletes puts them especially at risk.

      • high level physical exertion is never a good ideal after any major medical work.yes it will slow you down but covid eats your brain and nerve cells and with trillions of them in your lungs even at 70% you will die. They need to use thier finger moniters and keep thier heard rates down if the air an`t there in the finger moniter which can and do save lifes

  3. A FN flying RED FOX BAT attack in the USA in 2016 on the beach under some trees in palm beach county-after that we showed all the signs of covid weak could`nt get our air but it got better but we are totally long haulers long before the covid went blast stage.or was even on the public stages

  4. under training plus the covid and the vaxs all mean you can`t do WTF you used to do and you will feel like a 100 year old weaky-if thast WTF your body is telling you than if you don`t react to your own body YOU will hurt your self just as any under training lacking the road work jock will.If your training an`t there than take some medical action

  5. Well, I heard about the #1 in tennis being held in confinement after his medical exemption was rejected and his visa revoked in Melbourne, but I only heard this after digging around. I’d rather give up tennis WITH MY HEALTH that have to retire because of a heart condition. People, hold the line where your health autonomy is concerned. Nothing is worth falling in line.
