Breaking : Tunisian Parliament – Shots Fired

According to reports coming from Tunis, shots have been fired in and around the vicinity of the Tunisian Parliament.

Casualties have been reported. Hostage crisis is developing at the nearby Bardo Museum. Security forces are looking for gunmen believed to be Islamist militantsTunisia was the birthplace of the Arab Spring  that led to the toppling of autocrat Zine El-Abidine Ben Ali in 2011. The museum holds very rare artifacts dating back to the Roman times, as well as Tunisia’s History.

Reports from Mosaique FM seen by BBC News state that there have been shots inside the parliament building.

State media has reported that there are casualties, according to the BBC.

A witness near the parliament told Reuters a large police presence was moving to evacuate the building.

Shots were fired near the parliament, and deputies had gathered in the building’s hall, a member of parliament told AFP.

Several people have been taken hostage inside the Bardo Museum, which is next to the parliament building.
