According to officials the Charleston church shooting suspect, Dylann Roof, has confessed to police that he shot and killed nine people on Wednesday at a historic African-American church in South Carolina, CNN reports.

It was also reported that Roof said he wanted to start a race war. He was arrested by authorities in North Carolina, on Thursday, following the tragic shooting and is now awaiting a bond hearing which could possibly happen on Friday.

It has also been revealed that Roof was taking a prescribed pharmaceutical drug Suboxone, a drug that has dangerous side-effects that include outbursts of violence and aggression.

RT report:

The .45-caliber handgun used in the attack was apparently purchased by Roof in Charleston in April. Previous reports stated that the gun was a birthday gift from his father. However, his grandfather stated that Roof was merely given “birthday money,” and that his family didn’t know what he used it for.

The “race war” comment comes after Roof’s roommate, Joey Meek, told ABC News that Roof was “big into segregation”

“I think he wanted something big like Trayvon Martin,” Meek said.“He wanted to make something spark up the race war again.”

Meek never alerted authorities.

Hundreds in Charleston attended a vigil for the nine victims on Thursday, packing the church’s pews and the street outside.
