Australian-born Hollywood actor Julian McMahon – best known for his roles in Charmed, Nip/Tuck and the 2000s Fantastic Four movies – died in Clearwater, Florida, on Friday after a battle with a rapid-onset and aggressive cancer. He was 56.

“With an open heart, I wish to share with the world that my beloved husband, Julian McMahon, died peacefully this week after a valiant effort to overcome cancer,” McMahon’s wife, Kelly McMahon, stated on Friday.

“Julian loved life. He loved his family. He loved his friends. He loved his work, and he loved his fans. His deepest wish was to bring joy into as many lives as possible. We ask for support during this time to allow our family to grieve in privacy. And we wish for all of those to whom Julian brought joy, to continue to find joy in life. We are grateful for the memories.”

A Sydney native, McMahon was born on July 27, 1968 and was the son of former Australian Prime Minister Billy McMahon. (Ironically, McMahon’s final role was as the Australian Prime Minister on the Netflix series The Residence.)

During the hit series Charmed, which aired from 1998 to 2006, Julian McMahon portrayed Cole Turner, a complex half-demon who became romantically involved with Shannen Doherty’s character, Prue Halliwell.

Their on-screen chemistry extended off-screen, with the two actors briefly dating during the show’s run. Doherty, a beloved figure in television and film, also passed away in July 2024 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Fans shared their heartbreak on Combs’ Instagram post.

“I just can’t believe it. I’m in shock,” wrote one.

“RIP Shannen and Julian,” added another.

Someone else shared, “My childhood heart can’t keep taking this. Rest in peace, Cole. ‘Charmed’ would never have been the same without you. Thank you for bringing so much magic, darkness, and love to that world we all escaped to. Your legacy, your talent, and the memories you gave us will live on forever.”
