Parents of Twins Who Died of SIDS at Same Time, Two Hours After Being Vaccinated, Told Deaths Were ‘Purely Coincidental’

Fact checked by The People's Voice Community

A pair of twin boys died from sudden infant death syndrome at exactly the same time, just two hours after receiving the diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis (DTP) vaccine — however, the extraordinary timing and extraordinary statistical improbability of the double tragedy has been dismissed as “purely coincidental” by the medical establishment.

The tragic case of the vaccinated toddlers was discussed in a paper by researcher S. C. Roberts, titled Vaccination and Cot Deaths in Perspective.

The paper acknowledged that the simultaneous deaths of the twins was inevitably raised questions about whether the relationship between vaccination and sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), also known as cot death, might be more than temporal.

However, the paper ultimately sided with the medical establishment, making a litany of excuses, and obfuscating the facts.

The author estimated that, based on SIDS incidence rates and vaccination rates in the United Kingdom, several infants would be expected to die suddenly within 24 hours of vaccination each year purely because of coincidence.

But the author didn’t dare approach the statistical improbability of a pair of twins dying at the exact same time, exactly two hours after a round of vaccinations.

The paper further argued that, given the large number of infants vaccinated each year, some deaths will inevitably occur shortly after vaccination by chance alone.

But again, the author fails to explain why a pair of twins died at the same time, after the same vaccine.

Subsequent studies examining the relationship between vaccination and SIDS generally did not find evidence that vaccines increase the risk of cot death. Some studies even reported lower rates of SIDS among vaccinated infants, though researchers caution that such findings may be influenced by differences between vaccinated and unvaccinated populations.

Even so, for critics of vaccine safety policies, the twin case remains deeply unsettling.

They argue that the extraordinary timing of the deaths deserves continued scrutiny and serves as a reminder that temporal associations should not automatically be dismissed without careful investigation.

Supporters of vaccination, meanwhile, contend that tragic coincidences can occur and that individual cases, however heartbreaking, cannot by themselves establish causation.

Nearly four decades later, the deaths of the twins remain one of the most emotionally powerful and controversial episodes in the debate over vaccine safety—a case that continues to raise questions, even as the broader scientific literature has not found evidence that routine childhood vaccinations cause SIDS.
