Study Confirms Humans Really Are Made Of Star Dust

Fact checked

A new study has confirmed what some people have been saying for years – that humans really are made of stardust.

A new survey of 150,000 stars shows just how true the old cliché is…

Humans and their galaxy are made up of about 97 percent of the same kind of atoms and researchers found that the elements of life appear to be more prevalent toward the center of the galaxy.

Jennifer Johnson the science team chair of the SDSS-III APOGEE survey and a professor at The Ohio State University, said in the statement: “It’s a great human interest story that we are now able to map the abundance of all of the major elements found in the human body across hundreds of thousands of stars in our Milky Way”

RT reports:

A team of astronomers from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey in New Mexico enlisted the Apache Point Observatory Galactic Evolution Experiment (APOGEE) which uses infrared wavelengths to see through the galaxy’s dust and analyze the composition of 150,000 stars across the Milky Way.

With that data, the group then cataloged the abundance of ‘CHNOPS’ (carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, phosphorous and sulfur) elements in each of the stars, which they say represent the “building blocks” of the world around us, and found humans and their galaxy have about 97 percent of the same kind of atoms.

“This instrument collects light in the near-infrared part of the electromagnetic spectrum and disperses it, like a prism, to reveal signatures of different elements in the atmospheres of stars,” a Sloan spokesperson said in a statement.

The team used a spectroscopy method to evaluate each element and determine what it was made of, discovering a distinct wavelength of light from within each star.

Researchers found a stronger concentration of the elements of life in the Milky Way’s center and discovered that while we share most elements with stars, humans’ mass is 65 percent oxygen, in contrast to the less than 1 percent measured in space.

“It’s a great human interest story that we are now able to map the abundance of all of the major elements found in the human body across hundreds of thousands of stars in our Milky Way,” said Jennifer Johnson, the science team chair of the SDSS-III APOGEE survey and a professor at The Ohio State University.

“This allows us to place constraints on when and where in our galaxy life had the required elements to evolve, a sort of ‘temporal galactic habitable zone.”

  1. Oh when will this stupid madness ever end; the wastage of resources, time, money etc on such futile research that does not contribute to humanities growth and ending misery to billions; but only serves the intellectual vanity of a few in white coated and big pay packets.

  2. And their persistent efforts to destroy any and all knowledge of the Holy Creator, and forming the universe in their own image! man designs and creates such awesome structures and technologies which is said could never form on their own by fate, chance or time; but are told the wonders of the Universe and its infinitely complex structure,as well as the infinitely complex life forms in their millions species on Earth, and the awesome complex Earth itself etc, just happen to form by fate and time and chance; lol lol lol, they really must be the most stupid people on Earth! Or, do they think we are? to expect us to believe the machinations of their short circuited brains because they have some title after their names given by other men.

  3. “…the group then cataloged the abundance of ‘CHNOPS’ (carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, phosphorous and sulfur) elements in each of the stars,…and found humans and their galaxy have about 97 percent of the same kind of atoms.” What they will _never_ find is the supreme, creative genius inherent in elemental matter that taught the ‘CHNOPS’ to produce a human brain.

  4. First: Science and religion are not mutually exclusive.
Second: Why is the pursuit of knowledge by way of logic and evidence a waste?

    • Third: Why pursue knowledge “by way of logic and evidence” in order to uphold a bizarre metaphysic–that primal, lifeless elements could, eventually, teach themselves to “think.”
