The View’s Sunny Hostin Trashes ‘One-Star Country’ USA Ahead of 250th Anniversary: ‘I’m Embarrassed to Be American’

“The View” co-host Sunny Hostin ignited fierce backlash after declaring that the United States is a “failed experiment” and “international embarrassment” during a heated discussion about America’s future ahead of the nation’s 250th anniversary.

Hostin unloaded on the country during an hysterical monologue that left even some of her far-left co-hosts pushing back. “Why I am conflicted about this country [is] because I feel that it is at this point a failed experiment, quite frankly,” Hostin said.

The ABC host claimed she feels “embarrassed” by America and argued that the rest of the world now sees the United States as a declining nation. “I’m embarrassed at our government,” Hostin said. “I’m embarrassed at our lack of healthcare. I’m embarrassed on the assault on the press. I’m embarrassed of our Congress. I’m embarrassed by the criminal felon president that is in the Oval Office that has a UFC cage on the White House lawn.”

Hostin continued by claiming that America’s reputation on the global stage has collapsed. “I’m also embarrassed at how America is now seen across the globe,” she said.

“I don’t think that many Americans understand that we are part of a wonderful global community, and when you look at our allies, our allies are now giving us a one-star rating as a country.”

Her comments immediately triggered debate at the table.

Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin challenged Hostin directly, asking whether she truly believed the United States was beyond saving.

“You think it’s beyond redemption at this point?” Griffin asked.

Hostin didn’t miss the opportunity to continue her anti-American rant. “I think at this point it is failing,” she replied.

When Griffin suggested future elections or leadership changes could reverse the country’s direction, Hostin claimed former President Bill Clinton privately agreed with her bleak assessment.

“I spoke to President Clinton when he was here off camera, and he believes that it’s going to take this country decades to recover from what has been done,” Hostin said.

But not everyone on the panel was willing to go as far as Hostin.

Co-host Ana Navarro argued that Americans can criticize the government without declaring the nation itself a failure.

“I think you can separate feeling proud of America, feeling proud of being an American, feeling proud of the exceptionalism and resilience of this country, and feeling really ashamed and embarrassed and horrified by the American government right now,” Navarro said.

“So, yes, yes, dammit, I am ashamed of it, but I will never stop being proud of being an American.”

Sarah Haines also pushed back on the idea that the United States is a “failed experiment.”

“It’s an imperfect social experiment, and I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else,” Haines said.

Griffin echoed that sentiment, noting that most Americans still express pride in their country despite political divisions.

“Count me among the two-thirds of Americans who are very proud to be American,” Griffin said.

“I don’t think that means you can’t acknowledge our country has tremendous flaws and call this country an experiment in democracy because it’s not guaranteed.”

Hostin’s comments quickly spread online, where critics accused the longtime co-host of insulting the very country that helped make her wealthy and famous.

Others defended her remarks as frustration with the current political climate.

Either way, the fiery exchange once again highlighted the growing divide over how Americans view the nation’s future — and whether criticism of government leadership has now morphed into outright pessimism about America itself.
