According to flight tracking data and sources cited by British media, the operation began on August 24, when a Kalitta Air Boeing 747 cargo jet using call sign K49709 departed Chicago and landed at RAF Fairford, a US Air Force base in Gloucestershire, England.
In the early hours of August 25, US Marine Security Guards raided the diplomat’s apartment in Putney, southwest London. They allegedly carried a US warrant. According to reports, child sexual abuse images were found on his phone. He was detained by American personnel on British soil.
London’s Metropolitan Police were not notified in advance. They were informed of the investigation at some point on August 25 — after the raid had already taken place.
At 5:33 p.m. that same day, the Kalitta Air jet, now using call sign K4529, departed RAF Fairford. After a flight of approximately seven hours and eleven minutes, it landed at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware. Less than four hours later, the aircraft departed again, bound for Chicago O’Hare International Airport.
By the time British authorities were made aware of the full scope of what had occurred, the diplomat was already outside the United Kingdom.
No Extradition Request Filed
Under longstanding agreements between the United States and the United Kingdom, US law enforcement personnel have no arrest authority on British soil. Any formal transfer of a suspect from the UK to the US would require British legal process, including a warrant, a hearing, and judicial approval.
