Mars is an intriguing place to study and explore, but in its current condition, the planet would not make much of a home for humans.
Elon Musk has an idea about how to quickly change that and on Wednesday, he shared his rather aggressive suggestion on ‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.’ He thinks the fastest way to make Mars a habitable place is to drop nuclear bombs on the celestial body, ideally in the polar regions.
Doing so, said Musk, would force the cold, rocky planet into a state of warming. After being called a “supervillain” by Colbert in response to the idea, Musk suggested a less extreme plan that would involve sending loads of carbon dioxide to the Red Planet.
While that would do the trick as well, the process would take much longer. In the past, Musk has expressed a great interest in the possibilities Mars presents, but he did admit on the show that it is “a fixer upper of a planet.”
