JANET is not owned or affiliated with any commercial airliner and strictly operates out of a private terminal at Las Vegas’ McCarren Airport. It is operated by defense contractor AECOM and the fleet of planes are owned by the U.S. Air Force.
The fleet of planes consists of six Boeing 737-600S with red horizontal stripes, and 5 Beechcraft turboprops with blue trim stripes. Some say that “JANET” stands for: “Just Another Non Existent Terminal” and others believe it stands for “Joint Air Network For Employee Transportation”.
The flight attendants must be able to qualify and maintain Top Secret/SSBI security clearance. The airline mostly shuttles employees from Las Vegas to their jobs at places such as Area 51, Air Force Plant 42, Tonopah Test Range, and Edwards Air Force Base, among others.
