Pope Benedict slammed his successor Pope Francis on Saturday, warning that the Catholic Church is a boat “on the verge of capsizing.”
Pope Benedict also said that an observer viewing the Catholic Church under Pope Francis’s leadership would be forgiven for thinking that God has abandoned the Church.
Speaking at the funeral of Cardinal Joachim Meisner, Pope Benedict said he was moved at the cardinal’s ability to “live out of a deep conviction that the Lord does not abandon His Church, even when the boat has taken on so much water as to be on the verge of capsizing.”

Driving the knife in even further, Pope Benedict said the Church “stands in particularly pressing need of convincing shepherds who can resist the dictatorship of the spirit of the age and who live and think the faith with determination.”
Pope Francis, who was promoted to the papacy in 2013 after Benedict became the first pope to resign in almost 600 years, has angered and bewildered Catholics in equal measure during his short time at the head of the Church.
After shocking the world by declaring the theory of evolution and the Big Bang to be correct, the Jesuit Pope Francis further alienated traditional Christians by dedicating more time to his radical leftist political agenda than to ecumenical matters.

Last week Pope Francis told the Italian newspaper La Repubblica that the United States of America has “a distorted vision of the world” and Americans must be ruled by a world government, as soon as possible, “for their own good.”
The week before he also called for “a one world government” and “political authority”, arguing that the creation of the one world government is needed to combat major issues such as “climate change.”
Speaking with Ecuador’s El Universo newspaper, the Pope said that the United Nations doesnt have enough power and must be granted full governmental control “for the good of humanity.”

All of which seems to have stuck in Pope Benedict’s craw. The conservative former pope, who by all accounts “is in complete disagreement” with Pope Francis’ agenda, has now started speaking his mind.
Pope Benedict’s message is clear: the pope who replaced him is ushering the Catholic Church in the wrong direction. God is not on his side.
But according to Pope Benedict, all is not lost.
In June 2017, Pope Benedict met new cardinals alongside Pope Francis. He had a brief message for them: “The Lord wins in the end.”
