The US-led coalition has confirmed an airstrike on a pro-government forces in Southern Syria citing a ‘threat to US partner forces’

Coalition jets reportedly struck an Assad convoy near Tanf where US and British special operations forces have been training Syrian rebels near the border with Iraq and Jordan.

A coalition spokesperson confirmed that coalition strikes in southern Syria struck Syrian government militia which “posed a threat” after it “moved against US-backed forces in Syria.”

Syrian rebels based with the US Special Forces in the area said that militia supporting the Syrian army had been nearby as well.

According to ABC news:

U.S. officials say an American airstrike has hit pro-Syrian government forces in southern Syria as they were setting up fighting positions in a protected area.

The officials say the strike near Tanf hit a tank and a bulldozer and forces there, but it was not clear if they were Syrian army troops or other pro-government allies.

One official says the pro-regime forces had entered a so-called “de-confliction” zone without authorization and were perceived as a threat to U.S.-allied troops there. The officials say the strike was a defensive move to protect the U.S. allies. It wasn’t clear if U.S. forces were there.

The officials weren’t authorized to speak publicly on the matter and demanded anonymity.

It was reported yesterday that US and British troops had already entered Southern Syria.

Fighting alongside jihadist terrorist organization, Jaysh Mughawr al-Thurah, a subsidiary of the Free Syrian Army, U.S. and British forces were filmed traveling through the Tanf border crossing in Homs governate. The troops were apparently heading towards the Hamimah area.
