Flylashes: The Hot New Beauty Trend?

Fact checked by The People's Voice Community

Flylashes – false eyelash made from the legs of dead flies…. Nice.

Somehow, we don’t think this one is going to catch on.

Website Bit Rebel reports:

They say the eyes are the windows to the soul, but if you ask some artists, it’s more like the eyes are a canvas for outrageous art. A few months ago I wrote about the world’s first gold and diamond contact lenses. It’s jewelry that is worn inside your eye, in the form of a contact lens. If you thought that was strange, you’re definitely in for a treat because these eyelashes rank much higher on the weird shit-o-meter.

Apparently this has been around for a while, but I just saw it today. Since I’m completely in awe (in an “I’m not going to be able eat the rest of the day” kind of way), I knew I had to share it with you. Artist Jessica Harrison, who is studying for her PhD in sculpture, is known for her creepy, unusual art. She creates the kind of things that show up in our nightmares.

This is a perfect example. These are her Flylashes which are eyelashes created from dead fly legs. She glues the fly legs to her eye, and they are meant to look like long, thick luxurious eyelashes (or clumpy mascara from the ’80s, depending on how you look at it). If you can get past the gross factor, it’s a way to embrace death, I guess. I don’t know, it looks like it would be uncomfortable and itchy to me.
