India And US To Hold Military Drills Near Border With China

India and the United States will be conducting military exercises near the border with China between September 14-27

The drills will take place in Uttarakhand, a state in the northern India.

Sputnik News reports:

It is a series of one of the longest running joint military training and a major ongoing bilateral defence cooperation endeavours between India and the US. It is the 12th edition of the joint military exercise hosted alternately by the two countries,” a military official was quoted as saying by the Indo-Asian News Service (IANS).

The exercises near the India-China land border, dubbed Yudh Abhyas 2016, will take place under the aegis of the Central Command of the Indian Army and will involve 225 servicemen from each side, IANS specified.

The drills come several weeks after New Delhi and Washington signed a Logistics Exchange Memorandum of Agreement (LEMOA) allowing US and Indian forces to share each other’s military bases for repair and replenishment of supplies.

The LEMOA covers training, exercises, port calls, refueling, repair and humanitarian assistance between India and the United States. Under the agreement, India can refuel its warships and aircraft as well as repair military hardware at US bases in Diego Garcia, the Persian Gulf, East Africa, Australia, Japan and the Philippines.
