According to Syrian media, Israeli warplanes struck targets near the airport in the Syrian capital, Damascus on Wednesday.

In September Israeli military launched a number of artillery attacks against Syrian army posts in the Golan Heights.

Haaretz reports:

Unconfirmed reports in Syria claim Israel hit military positions belonging to the Syrian army outside of Damascus’ domestic airport on Wednesday. It is the second alleged instance of an Israeli attack in Syria since Russia began operating against rebels in the war-torn country.

The report, published by Damascus Now, a news outlet affiliated with the embattled regime of President Bashar Assad, claimed that military sites near the airport were hit Wednesday morning, and suggested that an initial investigation pointed to Israel. As a result of the alleged attack, a fire broke out and heavy smoke was reported in the area. Blasts were also reportedly heard.

At the end of October, Syrian opposition forces claimed that the Israeli air force attacked facilities belonging to Assad’s regime and to Hezbollah forces in the Al-Qalamoun Mountains in Syria, near the Lebanon border.

There were no immediate comments from the Syrian government on the situation.
