Police Clash With Bernie Sanders Supporters

Police clashed with supporters of former presidential candidate Bernie Sanders at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) .

The clashes came amid continued protests regarding the Democratic Party’s bias against Sanders.

Press TV reports:

The protesters gathered on Monday outside the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the venue of the 2016 DNC, to demonstrate their anger at presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

The protesters were chanting, “Nominate Sanders or lose in November!” and “Hey, hey, ho, ho, the DNC has got to go!” They carried signs reading, “Never Hillary”, ”Just Go to Jail Hillary” and “You Lost Me at Hillary.”

At least 55 protesters were arrested as they chanted against super delegates and the role of money in the campaign. On Sunday, activists held a similar rally outside the convention hall.

As tensions mounted outside the convention, police moved barricades into place and closed the nearest metro station to arriving trains.

The anger reflected the widening rift inside the Democratic Party between Sanders’ supporters and Clinton’s.

Addressing the convention Monday night, Sanders called on his supporters to vote for Clinton, generating a chorus of boos and chants of, “Bernie! Bernie!”

With Sanders out of the race, some of the demonstrators were backing Libertarian Party nominee Gary Johnson or Green Party candidate Jill Stein.

On Friday, WikiLeaks released about 20,000 emails from the DNC that show top Democrats writing off Sanders’s chances during the primary elections.
