The majority of Democrats want communism in the United States, according to data from the latest Rasmussen poll that suggests far-left extremism is on the rise.
Fifty-one percent (51%) of Democrats have a favorable impression of socialism, according to the poll, with 13% who share a very favorable one. This compares to favorables of seven percent (7%) of Republicans who hold a very favorable opinion of it.
Twenty-eight percent (28%) of all likely U.S. voters think the Democratic party should officially declare itself a National Socialist party, according to the poll..

Unsurprisingly for a voting bloc that receives its news from CNN, Democrats were also the group most likely to hold uninformed views regarding the reality of communist and socialist systems.
Twenty-nine percent (29%) of Democrats incorrectly believe the individual has more power than the government in a socialist system, a view held by just 12% of Republicans and seventeen percent (17%) of unaffiliated voters. Eighty percent (80%) of Republicans correctly say the government has more power in a socialist system.
The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines socialism as “any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods.”
The poll results come just weeks after former President Obama argued that we must change our economic system and embrace elements of communist ideology including “universal basic income”, the policy where the government grants citizens an income to live on.
Delivering remarks Tuesday at the 16th annual Nelson Mandela Lecture in Johannesburg, Obama also claimed “the rich owe the world a huge debt” and outlined a series of radical wealth distribution plans taken straight from the pages of Das Kapital, Karl Marx’s seminal communist tract.
The good news is that, according to Obama, the rich will pay for everything. The bad news is that, according to Obama, you’re rich.
Letting his guard down in front of the African crowd, Obama said countries that have become rich on the back of global free trade — like the United States — must now give back and support the less wealthy around the world by providing a universal basic income that will lift everyone up to the same level.
According to Obama, our economic system is no longer fit for purpose. It’s time for change — and he says the government must play a central role in our lives, providing our income, training and “making everybody” entrepreneurs.
“It’s not just money that a job provides,” said Obama. “It provides dignity and structure and a sense of place and a sense of purpose. So we’re going to have to consider new ways of thinking about these problems, like a universal income, review of our workweek, how we retrain our young people, how we make everybody an entrepreneur at some level. But we’re going have to worry about economics if we want to get democracy back on track.”
