China Creates Pedestrian Lane For Cell Phone Addicts (Video)

Fact checked by The People's Voice Community

Seeing people walking around with their heads buried in cell phones is something you’ll likely witness everyday. In China, the smartphone obsession is so abundant that there is now a designated lane for pedestrians who have a hard time removing their eyes from screens.

The special sidewalk is located in Chongqing city, which is one of China’s major cities. The lettering on the pavement reads “Cellphones, walk in this lane at your own risk.”

The walkway right next to it bans cellphone use all together. The phone lane wasn’t created by government officials.

Instead a property manager is behind the new sidewalk. It’s meant to be both ironic and a reminder to pedestrians that walking while using social media or playing games on their phones is dangerous.

Similar lanes appeared in Washington D.C. earlier this year as part of a National Geographic TV show called ‘Mind Over Masses.’ The Chinese version was inspired by the project in D.C.

Many pedestrians have snapped photos of the sidewalk, but those who are addicted to their phones don’t seem to notice the markings.
