
Colin Powell, the former US secretary of state, has died from ‘complications of Covid-19’ it was announced on Monday.
84 year old Powell, who was fully vaccinated against covid, was being treated for the virus at Walter Reed national medical center in Bethesda, Maryland.
His family said they had lost a “remarkable and loving husband, father, grandfather and a great American”.

Powell, a retired four-star general was also the first black secretary of state and served under George W Bush from 2001 to 2005.
He had been a key figure in the build up to the 2003 invasion of Iraq .
During a 75-minute speech at the United Nations, Powell claimed Iraq had weapons of mass destruction and intended to produce more. It was later found that much of his intelligence turned out to be wrong, but that, sadly, was too late for Iraq
Powell was also a republican who abandoned the GOP and endorsed Joe Biden for president.
