The Super Moon visible in the night sky has raised alarms at the Environmental Agency.

The Agency warns: ‘we could see some large waves and spray and urge people to take care near coastal paths and promenades and not to drive through flood water’.

Travel disruption, stormy weather, 50 mph gusts and high tides are predicted for coastal areas of the UK.

  • Alerts have been issued for the north-west coast right through to Monday, while the north east is likely to see flooding in low-lying land today, it said.
  • Meanwhile, a wintry blast also brought a covering of snow to many parts of the UK.
  • This week parts of the world saw a so-called ‘super moon’ popular term for when the moon is at its closest in its elliptical orbit around the Earth.
