Recently, a man in Colorado was left severely injured after his head was run over by his own vehicle.
He was reportedly smoking while backing out of his driveway when he dropped the lit cigarette. He jumped out of the vehicle presumably to avoid being burnt or shake the butt off his clothes.
However the van was still moving backwards. Somehow, he was knocked to the ground and the driver’s side wheel rolled over his head.
The man was taken to the hospital where his condition was listed as critical. Despite the severity of his injuries, police say he is expected to survive.
Another man who had been sitting in the passenger seat during the incident was uninjured. It does not appear as though alcohol and speed are factors in the accident.
Police have since reminded citizens of the dangers of distracted driving and urge them to eliminate things such as smoking, using cell phones, eating, reading and listening to loud music while behind the wheel.
