An incredible video has surfaced of a man paralyzed from the waist down who was recently able to regain some command over his leg movements thanks to the help of a bionic skeleton.

According to GeoBeats News:

In 2010, Mark Pollock fell from a window, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down. But recently, he was able to assert partial command over the movements of his legs and take thousands of steps.

This amazing achievement was facilitated through a combination of a bionic suit and electric stimulation to the spinal nerves. Pollock had used an exoskeleton to move prior to this, but in those instances his steps were entirely propelled by the machine.

This time around, he was able to exhibit much greater control. To get to this point, Pollock went through extensive physical therapy weeks before to re-familiarize him with the workings of limb manipulation.

Pollock also underwent a series of electric stimulations to the spine. Afterwards, while wearing the bionic suit, he was able to transition from the mechanism directing his gait to doing a great deal of the walking himself. Moreover, he reported feeling tension in his leg muscles while doing so.

Additional testing is needed, but the researchers are hopeful that their discoveries and developments will greatly benefit those living with paralysis in the future.
